In this 10-week writing workshop, Qui Vive! writers joined poet Tyler Doherty and professor Leif Gustavson to explore, exploit, and explode the conventions of catalogue verse, otherwise known as the list poem. Participants modeled forms from the snarky 13th century midnight jottings of Japanese courtier Sei Shonagon, through the scope and splendor of lists that populate Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, to the playful and detail-packed “Things to do” catalogues of Beat poet, Gary Snyder.
